Haikou Jiandong New District is planning to build an ecological restoration project on the eastern bank of the Nandu River estuary in Haikou city.
The project aims to utilize the existing natural landscape of the Nandu river, upgrading the banks of Hainan’s longest river to build a comprehensive city-level park for fitness and recreational use.
The development and reconstruction of urban parks and wetlands have become common across the islands capital in recent years, many of the older parks in the city have being transformed and upgraded into high quality inner city parks.
The project has a planned length of about 4,500 meters, a width of 130-650 meters and a total area covering 1073061.43 meters.
Currently the project has completed the project approval, site selection, survey and design bidding stage. The compilation of flood control measures, navigation, project feasibility and a report on three fish farms is also underway.
Alongside the long list of paperwork, reports and proposals the construction aspects of the park include earth works, garden landscaping, architectural works, and improvement of revetments (structures which protect against erosion caused by waves, storm surges and currents), among other needed park facilities.
Construction is scheduled to start in June 2021 and is expected to be completed in early 2023.
