Hainan briefs global organizations on FTP policies

The Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan held the meeting, titled Hainan FTP: New Opportunities for Global Investors, in provincial capital Haikou on June 4. It was Hainan’s largest gathering of international organizations based in China since its establishment as a province.

Over a dozen international organization representatives were briefed on the preferential trade and other policies and investment opportunities at the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) to promote international cooperation.

The guests were from organizations such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, New Development Bank, World Intellectual Property Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said the representatives were invited to Hainan to learn about the development of the FTP and strengthen connection and cooperation with the FTP.

Ni Qiang, Vice Governor of Hainan, said this year, which marks the first anniversary of the release of the master plan for the Hainan FTP, is a key year to develop the FTP. For that, the government is giving priority to opening up the island and strengthening international cooperation. 

Ni also said the brand effect of international conferences should be promoted to attract more international organizations to hold their conferences in Hainan. The province should develop exchange and cooperation with international organizations and promote itself to the world.

Several departments and institutions in the province such as the Hainan Development and Reform Commission and Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, as well as the representatives of some key industrial parks and enterprises such as the Hainan Resort Software Community, also attended the meeting and provided additional information.

Representatives from tourism and culture, health, intellectual property, agriculture, commerce, education, transportation and customs also interacted with the guests.

With the construction of the FTP, Hainan has attracted extensive attention from the international community as it now provides an important window and platform for global investors to share the dividends of China's development.
