Maiya River Wetland: New “business card” for Jiangdong New Area

Maiya River, located in Haikou's Jiangdong New Area, has taken on a new look. Previously, there were various fish or shrimp farming pools dotted along the river here and there. Now, in contrast, little islands covered with lush trees and other plants surrounded by clear waters have created a much more beautiful landscape.

As Hainan focuses on ecological restoration, the Maiya River Area, which covers an area of more than 2,200 mu (about 147 hectares), plays an important role in promoting Jiangdong New Area's development into a national ecological civilization pilot zone.

According to monitoring data, the water quality of the wetlands in the Maiya River Area tends to be stable, while the plant community is becoming healthier and more diverse, with 40 species of trees and 23 species of shrubs & ground covers recently added.
