China's southernmost Hainan Province plans to invest 1 billion yuan (about $154.46 million) to support the construction of 50 clinical medical centers across the province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). At the same time, Hainan will also focus on improving local medical personnel's inter-disciplinary diagnosis abilities and available treatments for organ system diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, central nervous system diseases, respiratory diseases, digestive system diseases, renal diseases, and tumors. The improvement in the overall health level of the province will support the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

The 14th Five-year Plan for healthcare and public health (2021-2025), issued by Hainan in June this year, puts an emphasis on the overall improvement of medical resources on the island. The construction of the 50 provincial clinical medical centers will be the first step in raising the overall capacity of Hainan’s medical institutions. Additionally, provincial branches of national medical centers, as well as national and provincial medical centers, will be built as part of Hainan’s health system, covering the entire island of Hainan, including all cities, counties, and rural areas, according to the plan.
The planned clinical medical centers will also provide favorable packages and working conditions for the staff in order to attract talented medical professionals from China and around the world.
